Done Stitching in Sunny Cal for 2012

Most likely the last finishes for 2012 - my Iris & Fans, I was one thread off in one of the corners!!  I suppose I could have figured out where I was off, but decided it wasn't all that noticeable.

The framed picture for my sister and last picture are the 52 pillow cases for Christmas presents!!

Hope you all got had fun stitching and were able to finish some if not all of your UFO's.  I made a dent, but no way was I close to doing it all.

Stitching in Sunny Cal's update

Here is a small project that I did for my sister for Christmas.  It's currently at the framer.  It's a Shepherd's Bush design called My Sister My Friend - as if you couldn't figure that out.  It didn't take long to stitch, but thought it was pretty and knew my sister Linda would like it.  She's not a stitcher, but she is a wonderful teddy bear designer and quilter and of new book maker.

Next is my update on my Iris & Fans.  I'm working on the corners and then will have one more row around the thin green band.  I'm still hoping to get this crossed off my 2012 list of projects.

Below are two rag quilts that I did, one for my grand nephew, who was born just before summer.  Since it's generally hot in the summer in Indiana, I didn't see a need to get it done too quickly.  But now that winter is here, figured he needed something to keep him warm.  The blanket has dinosaurs, trucks, bugs and space ships, all the things little boys like.  The other blanket (in blues) was sent to my daughter's best friend in 10 & 11th grade.  She had a little boy in September and while she lives in here sunny cal (LA area), figured the nights can be cool and damp and this would keep him warm.

My Spiritdancer has been sidelined for several weeks now while I work on Christmas presents.  The two quilts before were some of those projects, but I've also been assembling about 36 pillow cases - they are in their final phase - the side and bottom seams.  Once those are done, then I'll be back on my lady.  Hopefully she'll have one more notable post before the end of the year.    Don't think she'll be crossed off the goal list :(  But she is a lot further along than she was at the end of 2011!!  So I'm happy.

I hope you are all making great progress on your lists.

Quilting Update from Stitching in Sunny Cal

I've been doing some quilting.  I'm not the best quilter in the world, but not the worse.  Maybe if I actually took a quilting class I would get better.  But until then I will do my best.  So here are my squares that complete the actual pieced portion of this quilt The Thimbleberry 2009

I have to fix the one square - you can see that the upper left square is put in wrong :(  So I need to rippppppp and re-sew it, but once that is done that all of the squares that needed to be assembled have been!!!  And all I'll have left to do is cut out 30 6 1/2" squares from the material that looks like it's appliqued, and then assemble the body of the quilt.  I'm not sure I'll get it done this year, but I'm a lot close than I was back in January.

I also got a square re-assembled on my Thimbleberry 2008 quilt, I've not made as much progress on that quilt as I have on this one, I'm not just as thrilled with it as I was when I started.

Here is another set of squares that I got done - maybe month 11.  I like the colors in this quilt and this blue is really pretty.

This last square should have 3 smaller ones to match, but I didn't do them, instead I stitch the big square twice!!  Oh well, since I have to go back and re-do the top square, I guess I can look at getting these 3 small ones done at the same time.

Hope you are all making progress on your 2012 projects, time is ticking down - only about 71 more days and 2012 will be history and it will be time to set our sights on 2013 - so what do you have in mind for your 2013 challenge?

Stitching in Sunny Cal update

Here is my update on my Iris and Fans - I'm working the same section all the way around because I know me and if I only did one quarter, at the end of the day one quarter would be finished and this would be tossed back into the UFO pile for another year and another challenge.  So does this go into 2013??? LOL  Also, I was worried about running out of the main color.  I got 3 skeins, and I'm into the second skein and don't fell like I'm 2/3 done with the off-white color.   so if I run out and have to change it, hopefully it won't look too obvious because I know I can't get it anymore.

Below is my update on my woman, she has a face!!!  I was hoping for an arm and hand too, but opted to do a small ornament for an exchange instead.

Happy stitching to all!!

Japanese Garden Update

Stitched by: Meari

Years ago when I kitted up the Chateline Japanese Garden, I decided to go with the Victoria Clayton Hand-Dyed Silks. Vikki suggested the conversions and I went with it. I recently visited her website to order the colors I was low on and didn't see them. So, I emailed Vikki and found out that the colors I need have been discontinued! Yikes... I am enlisting the help of you, my devoted readers and vistors. Do any of you have some of her silks in your stash that you're not using and would be willing to trade or sell to me??

These are the colors I need:

(Photo clickable to enlarge)

Irish Moss
Lichen
Mint (or Lighest Mint)
Pine
Ocean
Walnut

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Stitching in Sunny Cal update

Not a lot to report, haven't been doing a lot of stitching, but that is changing.  I did finish my granddaughter's socks, so I'm down to one unfinished pair of socks, which may or may not ever get done.  But the two that I started this year are done :)  So I'm happy.

I also pulled up on UFO list to see what was on it and what was realistic and what's now.  So will be updating that soon.  I had 15 items listed, I've crossed off 3!!  I'm hoping to get at least 2 more crossed off this year.

I should be posting a picture soon of my Spirit Dancer, I'm working on her this weekend :)  But want some noticeable changes.  In the mean time - happy stitching to all and my your thread always have enough to finish the row.
